I finally broke out the tired but effective threat for this time of year--"Santa is watching." I've used it a couple of times with Maddy when she's argued about why she shouldn't have to clean something up or why it's ok for her not to share while Emmy still has to. I don't want to overuse it; it's a powerful tool to have to use with a 4 year old.
Except Maddy's trying to find a way around it. After asking her to pick up her princess toys, I reminded her that "Santa is watching." She looked thoughtful and then glanced at me out of the corner of her eye.
"Mom," she asked, "when does Santa sleep?"
Seriously, the kid is trying to figure out how to pull one over on Santa while he's not watching.
