Yesterday Maddy and I made cupcakes to take to our local firefighters today. We're very fortunate to have a fire station in our neighborhood, and the firefighters are always super nice and friendly with the kids. We called our neighbors who met us there. The kids got a quick look at the fire truck and then we left--nap time was calling.
I've been trying to explain to Maddy what Patriot Day is about. What she understands right now is that it's a day we say thank you to firefighters, police officers, and others who help keep us safe. She was excited to drop off the cupcakes and see the firemen who were up there.
The firefighters are getting ready to assist people who are leaving the coast because of the hurricane. They're expecting quite a few people to stay in the Austin area for the next few days. My neighbor was saying that the local grocery store was packed with people stocking up for the weekend.
Anyway, it was nice to be able to share the cupcakes with the firefighters and for Maddy to have another lesson in giving to others. She's especially happy she gets to keep the extra icing. :)
